Over the years, the king with his courtiers was so engrossed
with such spectacles as these, that the monarchy, instead of
producing an ideology to build the state, bankrupted the state,
leaving the borders undefended, and the country prey to power
groups focused upon taking over the state. The excuse for
having such a monarchy that "knew" it was superior to its
people was the great contributions made to the state. What
contributions? Whales? Sea monsters? Bankruptcy? Instability?
